4 Easy Steps You Can Take To Go Green

27th Apr, 2017

We owe Mother Nature a lot more than what we give in our everyday lives. It is not only the government’s responsibility to conserve “our” environment; we also have a part to play in this and we are ALL capable of participating in safeguarding our planet. Taking care of the environment should be a collective responsibility and privilege ensuring that we conserve the planet for generations to come.

It is actually quite easy to go green, it takes the simpler things in life to achieve this. As we mark World Earth Day, here is what you can do to play your part in saving our planet:

Switch off anything that uses electricity when not in use. If you’re not using it, turn it off. Turn off lights, televisions, computers etc. Unplug everything because even when appliances are off, they can still use power due to the background applications on the electronics.

Recycle everythingyou can and try to buy reusable and biodegradable products as much as possible. Whether it is glass or paper, plastic or metal, you can find a way to re-use them. The environment will thank you for that.

Also keep checking if any of the products you use are recyclable for example, plastic bags are not biodegradable yet we use billions each year. Think about what this does to the environment as plastics need thousands of years to disintegrate.

Water is life. Clean, fresh water tends to become more and more precious as time goes by. If we do nothing to save it, water will be more precious than gold. It is therefore crucial for us to do whatever we can to save it and prevent water pollution. It is not a difficult task, just turn the tap off while you brush, reduce the number of baths and take showers instead, and use the washing machine only when you can actually fill it with clothes.

Take public transport.Consider taking the bus, carpooling, taking the train or matatu to get to work, school or other destinations. Reducing car trips in favor of mass transit trips reduces congestion on roads and reduces the amount of fuel that is used.

Let’s keep our country clean.
