It's back to school season na kama hujaanza kupata messages zinasema "tuma school fees kwa hii number" you should count yourself lucky coz it's open season na ma-con wako-on! Funny enough, watu wanatuma doh. You would think tume learn, right? Example fiti ni a lady friend of mine called Jacky. We go way back and I've always known her as an incredibly meticulous person. She once called me in a panic, nikamuhurumia.
So this day, Jacky was just about to leave home for work when her daughter who was in Form 3 came in to the house. Alikuwa amevaa uniform and was carrying her back pack. Surprised, Jacky asked her, “kwani mid term imefika?” "Hapana mom, nimefkuzwa juu ya school fees.”
"Ati school fees? I paid for the whole year!" Jacky ali jam "Twende hiyo shule, watajua hawajui"
Her trip to work turned into a mission to show the school nani ndio kusema.
Jacky aliingia school gate na ubaya. Stormed into the accounts office akipumua.
"Why has my daughter been chased out of school na nimelipa school fees, kwanza ya the whole year?" The accountant was taken aback. After a few minutes of looking at the system akaambia Jacky "We did not receive any payment from you" Mara hiyo hiyo Jacky akatoa simu na aka-present proof of payment. "What is this?"
Accountant ku-cheki akamshow "this is not our bank account" Jacky was speechless, browsed her phone again and presented a different message. “Hi sio message yenu? It clearly says "Good morning, please note that we have opened a new school fees account. Kindly pay school fees to the account number below. Is this not your message?"
"Madam this message did not come from us." Hizi words zilikata Jacky kama panga. She almost had a heart attack.
Long story short, Jacky alichezwa na con-man. She literally sent a whole year's worth of school fees to a stranger and there's no getting that money back. So, this back to school season, make sure you verify accounts and contacts before making fees payments or sending money.
Kaa chonjo! Usiget scammed kama Jacky.
