Week nine of quarantine and still going strong. Ama niaje my people. Najua last week I chapiad you guys some tips on spotting and protecting yourselves from mobile fraud and I just kumbukad how important it was to also highlight online fraud coz that’s where it’s at.
No, not to mean it’s a good thing, but to point out that it’s easier to fall for online fraud coz it doesn’t seem too obvious, at least I think. Online fraudsters TBH are the most dangerous to me coz these guys have a lot of expertize in techy stuff. From my experience and other storoz I’v heard, the brains behind these guys are serious.
Talking of stories, ata tuseinde mbali. Just late last year Sos alikuwa anajob hunt and he came across this website that required him to key in his card deets. Oblivious to what he was getting himself into, he did so gladly. The site seemed legit, until he noticed some weird activity going on with his account; someone was trying to debit some money. Uzuri it was kidogo chums (I guess this was the fraudsters’ trys X just to see if the account had cash) and he called his bank and had the card blocked.
Sasa if this can happen to someone so learned (lazima I sifu my friends) can you imagine how many other people have fallen victim to online traps? Fraudsters have now found dozens of ways to trick people thanks to tech. Kwanza now that we live in a digital world, where you can access and conduct almost everything with a few clicks of a button, it’s important to be super vigilant.
Suspicious emails with an attachment or link? Hepa msee it just might be a scam. I remember having an experience with this doing exactly what Sos was, job hunting. I applied to a dodgy job offer (I was young and naïve, forgive me. I should have smelled a rat when I saw that the offer was too good to be true. Hiyo salo ilikuwa high sana… But now we know better J).
Also these tu links or pop ups for ati umeshinda iPhone 11 ama nini… How now? Don’t remember participating in any competition? Exactly. Don’t be clicking on unknown links now.
At the end of the day tukaange tukijua these are crimes that people are committing. You know what they say about siku za mwizi. If you have experienced any of the above or gotten other suspicious emails please report here +254732187000, +254711087000, send an email to contactcentre@kcbgroup.com ama SMS 22522. Also, what are some other ways you’ve fallen victim to online fraud? Ebu let Admin know…
