 AURA AND TEAM BOOK GRAND FINALE SLOT AT THE KCB EAST AFRICA GOLF TOUR

Kakamega Golf Club Chairman Dr. Catherine Aura and her team comprising of Ronald Omondi, Beatrice Otieno, and Derek Mwaura returned a combined score of 114 points, to clinch the overall title at the 5th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour, played at the 9-hole Kakamega Golf course on Saturday.

The team will also be joined by Sanjiv Walias, Dr. Protus Oketch, Justus Oyiengo and Logan Busolo who returned a total of 110 points to emerge second. The two teams will participate in the tour’s grand finale slated for November this year at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

Speaking after being crowned winners, Dr. Catherine Aura said: “This is a well-deserved win for us. Throughout the last week, we had been practicing as a team to sharpen our skills and get ready for the series. I can say teamwork and our passion for the game worked for us. I know we will be up against the crème de la crème in the grand finale, so we must go back to practicing and playing more to be able to compete at the highest level come November.”

The series that brought together a field of 100 golfers from different golf courses in the country saw handicap 25 golfer Ondino Abubakar card an impressive score of 41 stableford points to be crowned the overall winner at the lush par-72 Kakamega course.

 A handicap 19 golfer Lydia Oketch carded 35 stableford points to win the lady winner award while E. Mbakaya playing off handicap 23 won the men winner award after carding 35 stableford points.

Geoffrey Yego who booked a slot in the grand finale of the tour during the 4th leg of the series clinched the longest drive award in the men category while Dr. Irine Ashioya won the longest drive award in the ladies’ category.

Dharama Sharma playing off handicap 19, carded 35 stableford points to emerge as the guest winner while handicap 25 golfer, Eliud Siganga won the staff winner award.

 

After the amateur series, KCB will host introductory golf clinics targeted at ladies and juniors on Sunday, followed by a tree planting session at the same venue. The clinics which are aimed at growing the reach of the sport of golf in the country, have so far reached over 300 participants.

The sixth leg of the 2023 KCB East Africa Golf Tour will be held at the Nyanza Golf Club from June 9th- 11th
