Handicap 31 lady golfer Christine Riaroh of Nyanza Golf Club and her team of David Sate, Joyce Osike and Tabitha Ojwang’ returned a combined score of 109 points to be crowned overall team winners of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the par 72 Nyanza Golf Course on Saturday evening.
They beat their closest challengers Prashant Thakrar, Jiten Pabari, Amrish Patel and Ramesh Karia who carded 104 points. The two teams will represent Nyanza Golf Club at the grand finale of the tour at the Karen Country Club in November.
The tournament that brought together a field of over 100 golfers saw Kisumu-based golfer Francis Odhiambo playing off handicap 28 card an impressive 41 stableford points to emerge as the overall winner of the sixth leg of KCB East Africa Golf Tour.
Speaking after being crowned winners, Christine Riaroh said: “We are delighted to emerge as the overall team winners of the KCB golf series here in Kisumu after a very competitive day of golf. It was not easy considering the incredible pool of talent on the course today. Our collective efforts, hard work, and precision grant us this victory. We cannot wait to represent Kisumu in the grand finale, our aim is to go to Karen and enjoy ourselves at one of the best golf courses in the country.”
Handicap 19 golfer Prashant Thakrar carded 40 stableford points to be crowned overall men winner while Rosemary Obara playing off handicap 18 carded 39 points to bag the lady winner award.
Michael Kotu of Nandi Bears Club scooped the longest drive award in the men category while Joan Mitei of Kisii Golf Club won the award in the ladies’ category.
In the staff category, Eliud Siganga who was excellent at the fifth leg of the tour in Kakamega County and who plays off handicap 23 returned 36 stableford points to clinch the award.
Handicap 18 golfer Benjamin Koyier carded 32 points to win the guest winner award. Julius Omollo on the other hand took home the nearest to the pin award.
The tournament culminated in a juniors and ladies introductory golf clinic on Sunday morning at the same venue. KCB was also involved in a tree planting exercise at the Kisumu golf course in a bid to conserve the environment through the golf series.
The golf series will resume action on July 7th, 2023, at the Thika Sports Club
