KCB Head Coach Curtis Olago and Team shine at SOYA

KCB RFC head coach Curtis Olago came second in the Coach of the year category at the recently concluded SOYA Awards in Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega County.

His team KCB RFC finished 3rd in the Sports team of the Year category.

After a heated rivalry in the local rugby scene which culminated in a breathtaking final, KCB RFC and Kabras sugar went head-to-head for the honors.

Speaking of the team’s fairy tale fete, Olago lauded each member for their collective effort in sealing the title last season, stating that he is optimistic the same will be replicated this season.

“For KCB, our last season was a story of a bitter sweet rollercoaster of emotions especially that last match against Kabras. We thought we had lost but the boys’ mentality and character proved vital. I am proud of this team. They deserved the accolade but nonetheless we are optimistic next year they’ll emerge on top,” he said.

The bankers staged one of the most unforgettable comebacks in recent rugby history after coming from a 20-0 deficit to overpower the sugar millers 28-25 and clinch the fourth title in a row in the Kenya Cup last season.

KCB RFC has dominated the rugby scene in the Kenyan top flight competition under the tutelage of the adept Curtis Olago who has been in charge of the team for a while.

Currently, the bankers are 3rd on the log after matchday 7 with 26points. They still have a game in hand against Mwamba and a win will see them rise to 2nd. This season, KCB has not lost a match. They have won all the 6 matches they have played and drew once.

Captain Curtis Lilako on his side congratulated his coach and teammates for the recognition they received from the coveted SOYA awards.

“I must say I am proud of my coach for his exemplary stewardship. He has always displayed leadership, prowess and experience. The lads are happy to have him around. For my teammates, their hard work, discipline and dedication won us the title last season. We hope we can continue with the momentum and register good results in the remaining matches this season.  Hopefully we win the 5th title in a row,” he said.
