KCB RFC 15s Captain Griffin Musila is upbeat about continental glory as he joins the Kenya Simbas team for the Rugby Africa Cup assignment in Uganda, which will run from July 18 to July 29, 2024.
Musila is part of the 28-man squad that will fly the nation's flag in the competition, and he is joined by his KCB counterparts, Michael Wanjala and Wilhite Mususi. The team opens its campaign against Senegal on 20 July at the Mandela National Stadium.
Mususi will be featuring for the first time as a senior player in the tournament, having played before with the under-20 team. The skipper, who plays as a prop, joined the Bankers at the start of the 2023/24 season and has established his place in the starting lineup, propelling KCB to the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup finals. His call up to Simba's squad sums up his continued hard work and mastery of the game as he continues to scale up the ladder in the rugby scene.
“It is an honour to receive a senior call-up to represent the country in this tournament. I understand it is not going to be an easy tournament but as usual, we always fight to the last minute. I have learned a lot in my debut season with KCB, and I believe I can replicate the same on an international stage,” Mususi noted.
On his part, Grifin Musila expressed that the squad's composition is well-balanced and capable of taking on any opponent in the eagerly awaited competition.
“We have a strong team that has been drawn from different clubs in the country, and with such balance, the only target is a podium finish. We have played some of these teams before, like Senegal, and we know how strong they are and fighting in them. However, once we stick to the plan and work as a team, there will be no one to stop us.” Musila noted.
The squad is determined to upset their opponents and bag the continental trophy, which they last won in 2013.
