Peter Mlewi, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Muhona, Khadija Seleman, J Ndungutse and Hawa Wanyeche returned a combined score of 202 points to be crowned the overall winners of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the par 72 Lugalo Golf Club in Tanzania on Saturday evening.
Pte K Shemndolwa playing off handicap 9 returned an excellent 37 points after countback to emerge as the Division A winner while Michael Masawe, handicap 3, carded 37 points as well to emerge second after countback.
“I am very excited with our win here today, it is a testament to our dedication to excellence in golf. We had an incredible team of winners who were buzzing to clinch this edition here in Tanzania and I could not be prouder of them for their prowess. Looking forward to the grand finale, hopefully we will win it,” said Muhona.
In the highly competitive Division B, Muzai Mkumba who plays off handicap 15 returned 34 points to bag the category after countback while Captain Msechu came in second with 34 points after countback.
Division C saw handicap 24 golfer H Kindindi card 38 points to be named the winner, Alfred Woiso, handicap 24, returned 32 points to become second while handicap 24 golfer Dr. G Severin was a distant third with 32 points.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, KCB Group CEO Paul Russo said: “We are living up to the promise we made last year to make the KCB East Africa Golf Tour bigger and better. Our involvement in the sport within the East African region is aimed at fostering a golfing culture and making the sport accessible to all.”
Hawa Wanyeche claimed the longest drive award in the women’s category while Pte John Hiza scooped it in the men’s category. Pte Theresia Mombe was the nearest to the pin.
In the staff category, Masika Mukule who plays off handicap 19 returned 20 points to bag it after countback while KCB Group CEO Paul Russo, handicap 26, returned 20 points to be crowned second after countback.
The next leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour returns to Kenya at the Nyanza Golf Club on August 17, 2024.
