Njoroge, Nyaruai On The Rescue In Chess Olympiad

Kenya National champion Martin Njoroge secured his second win in the 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai City, India upsetting Candidate Master (CM) Changhoon Kim to become Kenya’s only winner in the match. Gracing the Olympiad is a dream come true for the 25-year-old Njoroge of the KCB Chess Club.

In the women's section, KCB player and Woman Candidate Master (WCM), Joyce Nyaruai was the only winner for Kenya, as the national women’s team lost 3-1 to Venezuela. It was the first match for Nyaruai in the Olympiad after being rested in both the first and second rounds. She upset Woman Fide Master (WFM) Roxanny Matute

KCB chess players Martin Njoroge, Ben Magana, Ben Nguku, and Joyce Nyaruai all qualified for the Olympiad and are part of the 10-man team representing Kenya in the tournament that kicked off on 28th July and will run until 10th August. Kenya will Monday face Palau in the round four clash.
