4 Things To Consider When Copping a Second Hand Car

Mimi nilisema nikiomoka the first thing imma buy is a car. Then I was hit by real life and the countless of other responsibilities I had and a car just wasn’t a priority at the time.

But yo, for some a car is a necessity na hiyo route ndio nataka kwenda sahii. I’ve been thinking about it for a while and I think I’m ready. Siwezi kuwa naomba Sospeter ndai every time I wanna take a road trip or need to transport things. So let’s speak this into existence-huu mwaka we are getting cars.

Kuomoka kwangu haijafika kuingia showroom and choosing a new car (but we’ll get there) so of course I’m thinking used cars. And a lot of us, especially first time car owners, are taking that route. You need to be very careful and alert when buying a used car especially from someone you don’t know. Wakora ni wengi and you can be sold a car that’s had a milli shidas and you’re just there being lied to. So, some things you should consider? I gat you 😊

  1. Budget

Of course this should be the first thing you consider. By the time you’re thinking of getting a moti, you probably know the type of car you want so next is figuring out how much you’re willing to spend on it (considering the type). Unaweza kuwa tempted to add a few thousand shillings when you see a car you like but coming up with a budget and sticking to it narrows your search and makes things easier for you when you decide to settle on one.

  1. Car history

Unaweza angalia ndai and be like okay, looks good as new. And you go ahead and sign the cheque. Before making the leap, make sure you’ve followed up on things like service records, previous owners, damages/accidents and the likes. Just coz a car is looking shiny and drives well doesn’t mean it’s in good condition or has always been that way.

  1. Verify Car Deets

This is a no brainer. Lakini some of us can be tempted to get a moti from a trusted friend and not bother to check things like log book nini nini just coz you know and trust the person. No, no. Make sure you verify details like log book and proof of ownership from NTSA to be on the safe side. This will help when you want to resale and for insurance purposes.

  1. Your lifestyle

Sawa, you’ve come up with a budget and considered all the necessary things, lakini how about your lifestyle and needs? You probs know that getting a certain make of car might be affordable but spare parts and servicing costs an arm and a leg. What are you using the car for? Off road trips or just commuting to work and other rides here and there? This is something you should defo consider before purchasing a car, even though the price tag looks tempting.

So there you have it. You can also read this my blog on copping your first car here and I’m sure together this info will saidia you.
