Black History Month

Isn’t funny how January dragged on for decades and here we are already in the third week of February?

Interesting don’t you think? Just thinking aloud.

Well, February is not only the shortest month of the year, it also happens to be the month we celebrate the efforts of black people across the world who fought to deliver their people from oppression. We all know the sad dark tales that history has kept under its sleeves and what better way to commemorate our fallen heroes than through movies?

These movies are mainly set within the Black American background but they speak to all demographics in light of the everyday challenges, women, men and the youth face while trying to improve their lives.

Hidden Figures

Having only hit the box office towards the end of 2016, its performance across the globe can be translated to the immense impact the movie possesses. The film focusses on the challenges of three extraordinary African American women who fought their way to be recognized as integral members within the prestigious NASA fraternity.  The Femme Fetal trio consisting of Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae make a run for the Oscars in this thrilling drama that speaks to the challenges women go through at the workplace and in their domestic roles. This is a MUST Watch.

Fences

Denzel Washington and Viola Davis exhibit a natural and ultimately convincing performance as low income earning African American parents in the suburban streets of Pittsburgh during the 1950s. The story revolves around the tough decisions that the youth face and the impact of choosing the contrary. This film will definitely keep you at the edge of your seats.

Moonlight

This movie takes you through the tough life of a young African American man struggling to peak through the rough Miami neighborhood that intends to sink him deep into the drug world.  Many of you may (or may not) remember Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore (What a name!! No, actually who are his Parents?) From his spectacular role in the Hunger Games Trilogy, Hidden figures (as Taraji P Henson’s husband) and many more films. Be sure to note that his performance alongside Taraji P Henson in this feature exceeds your very own expectations.

P.S this movie selection is sure to save your becoming a third wheeler to your besties dinner party!!

Otherwise, May Cupid’s light shine bright on all of you drowning in love!

Happy Valentines My lovelies! (To those who didn’t have dates, better luck next year)
